HISTORY

The Magic City Black Expo has emerged as Alabama’s leading event for showcasing black owned businesses in the southeastern region… but just a few years ago it was only an idea.

In 2008, there was no platform for African-American entrepreneurs to connect on a mass level and showcase their products and services to the public. In fact, the state of Alabama had not seen a black expo since 1996.

With $100 in change, local entrepreneurial couple – Darrius and Meagan Peace — decided to take matters into their own hands and create that platform for themselves. Thus the Magic City Black Expo began…

PURPOSE

MCBE organizers and supporters are committed to making a positive change. The event offers businesses an opportunity to showcase their products/services, expand clientele, establish partnerships as well as receive comprehensive training to assist them in the strengthening and expansion of their brands. All MCBE endeavors are inspired by the African American community, and the goal is to uplift and empower so that the entire community can live their dreams.

Since its start, MCBE has grown at a mind-blowing rate. Each installment is jam packed with compelling authors, motivational speakers, high-profile guests, and riveting entertainment the entire family can enjoy.

What initially originated as a means for promoting one business, has transformed into a quest to restore and revitalize the African-American/minority community in the City of Birmingham, Alabama as a whole, and with the recent exposure in the national media – CNN, Fast Company Magazine, Black Enterprise Magazine and recognition by the Obama Administration – we look forward to the opportunity to continue in that legacy with outstanding support.

The 2012 installment of the MCBE will be bigger and better than ever before. Come join us in our efforts to revitalize and stimulate this community.   The fourth installment of the Magic City Black Expo is coming your way!
